Program Rules

NOTE: These rules are subject to change if needed to clarify issues that may arise.


  1. Riders must join AERC and Green Bean Endurance Challenge to participate in this program.
  2. Once confirmed, notification will be sent to GBE secretary and you’ll be added to the database.
  3. Registration fee is $15/rider. These fees pay for the awards and maintenance of the website
  4. Riders will be automatically included in the Individual Rider points program based on each rider/horse unit.
  5. Team leaders will need to complete a second registration form on this site to create a team, beginning sometime in December and ending March 15. The Teams Coordinator will assist team leaders and riders in forming teams, as needed.
  6. Registration fees are non-refundable.


  1. Riders must be an AERC member in good standing.
  2. Riders must have less than 1000 combined AERC miles from both LD and endurance at the start of each season.
  3. A TEAM may include any combination of JR and SR riders and/or riders that have any experience level up to 1000 miles of AERC completions.


  1. Teams consist of no more than five riders.
  2. A rider may only belong to one team.
  3. No team may be created until a minimum of 3 confirmed team mates are assigned.  
  4. Each team is allowed to substitute one rider through May 1 only if no team ride points have been accumulated. Substitutions must be approved by the admins.
  5. Points are earned based on the rider, not the horse. A rider may earn points on multiple horses, regardless of who owns the horse.


Team and riders are assigned to an experience level based on AERC mileage as of December 1, 2021.

  1. TEAMS  will be separated into divisions based on combined mileage of all riders. We try to use these mileage delineations but reserve the right to adjust these brackets  based on total number of teams.
      • On-the-vine (0-499 miles)
      • Picked (500-1499 miles)
      • Cooked (1500 – 5000 miles)
  2. Individuals will be separated into the following divisions.
      • On-The-Vine: 0-99 Miles
      • Picked: 100-499 Miles
      • Cooked: 500-1000 Miles.
      • Junior: 0-1000 Miles


  1. Only events that are sanctioned by AERC qualify to receive Riding Points.  This is limited to Limited Distance (LD) and Endurance.  If AERC does not report results for your ride, it is not eligible.
  2. The competition is aligned with the AERC points year which is December 1 through November 30.
  3. Points will begin accruing upon verification of AERC and Green Bean Membership.  Points will not be retroactive.  There is a grace period through February 1.


Riding Points  We will receive data from AERC to automatically record these riding points.

    • Ride Completions. Earn 1 point per mile plus added Endurance  Multiplier for 50-100 mile distances in single day.
      • LD 25-35: 1 pt/mile
      • Endurance 50-70 miles: 1 pt/mile + 0.25 pt/mile
      • Endurance 75 miles: 1 pt/mile + 0.50 pt/mile
      • Endurance 100 miles: 1 pt/mile + 0.75 pt/mile
    • Ride Non Completions due to
      • Vet pull (metabolic, lameness, surface factors): 5 points
      • Disqualification: 5 points
      • Over time: 10 points
      • Rider option: 10 points
    • Back to Back Same Horse.  Ride the same horse in back to back LD or Endurance rides with both days earning a completion.  10 points each consecutive day.
    • Back to Back Same Rider.  Ride a different horse in back to back LD or Endurance rides with both days earning a completion.  5 points each consecutive day.

Bonus Points  To receive any of the following bonus points,  you MUST SUBMIT THEM TO US within 60 days of the event.  Deadline to submit the below activities is Dec 1, 2022. The end of season deadline will be strictly enforced.  If you joined after February 1st, you cannot enter points with activity dates prior to your join date.

    • Submit a Test Submission – 5 points Let’s make sure you can login and send us your stuff!  Freebie points!  EVERYONE should earn this!  (5 points/Max 5 points
    • Get a Mentor – 15 points (15 points max/season)
    • Volunteering at an AERC ride.  10 points per day or  5 points per half day
    • Manage an AERC Ride.  Your name must be listed as a manager/co-manager on the AERC website or on the ride flyer – 50 points each ride day
    • Entry-level Rides. Must be held on the same day over the same trails as an AERC event.  Must have a pre-and post- ride vet check.  Must be between 5 and 15 miles long. – 10 points each
    • Competitive Trail Rides. Must be held by an accredited CTR program (NATRC, UMECRA).  Must have a pre-and post- ride vet check. Completions only – no points received for pulls or ride options. Must include link to ride flyer or results– 1 point per mile. Max 100 points.
    • Ride & Tie/Equathon Rides. Must have a pre-and post- ride vet check.  Must include link to ride flyer or results – 1 point per mile 
    • Sponsor a Junior in an AERC LD or Endurance ride.  The junior does not be a GBE member – 5 points per junior per ride
    • Attend a Clinic.  Must be an AERC or Regional Club clinic OR complete the Endurance Essentials online course (see discounts page for link) – 15 points each
    • Seminars (in person) at AERC or regional AERC affiliated club (SEDRA, UMECRA, PNER, etc).  5 points each
    • Webinars (online) hosted by Green Beans, AERC, AERC-I, or SERA 100MM series.  Webinar must have been initially scheduled during the 2022 season. Webinars created prior to this season are not eligible for any bonus points. – 5 points each
    • Crew for an AERC member competing in a single-day 100 mile AERC sanctioned event. – 15 points each
    • Trail Maintenance Hours hours worked to maintain trails which must be reported to AERC.  Must follow guidelines here – 3 points per hour 
    • Write an Article for Endurance News and/or the Green Bean Blog.  We may select your article to be published so think of this as something you’d want to see in Endurance News or showcased on our Green Bean Blog or Newsletter.  Email your article to – 5 points each
    • Submit a Ride Report.  Since we are receiving ride results from AERC, this is an extra credit point to help us capture a little bit about how your day went!  You can submit this for any/all rides you attend, completion or not.  There’ll be place to indicate if you had a first ride, earned a BC or top ten or first place, and a comment section to include a few lines about your ride.   What went well? What didn’t?  Was this a first ride? First Top Ten?  BC? Send us a few lines or a few paragraphs. Only eligible for LD and Endurance events. 1 point each.
    • Tally-Hoe Mileage Derby!  Submit your miles and earn 5 points per 100 accumulated miles.  


  1. Bonus points must be sent to the scorekeeper using only the Activity Submission Form.
  2. Users must be logged in as a user to submit the form.
  3. Anyone can submit the form, however, only the originally logged in user can modify entries once they’ve been submitted.
  4. All bonus points must be submitted within 60 days of the completion of each event and no later than Nov 30, 2022.
  5. For any errors or issues correcting a prior submission, please submit a correction.


  1. Scoreboards are updated no less than once each month. We are volunteers and sometimes life events happen that prevent us from updating it more frequently.  Riding points will be delayed, dependent upon AERC ride results being updated.
  2. GBE reserves the right to have a blackout period at the end of the season that hides scores.


  1. A rider must receive a minimum of 25 points in order to receive a completion award and certificate.  This means if a rider on a winning team does not have at least 25 points, no team award will be given to that rider. 
  2. The number of awards given will vary depending on the total number of eligible teams.
  3. TEAM High point awards will be awarded in each division unless fewer than 5 teams per division are registered. GBE scorekeeper reserves the right to combine divisions based on number of registered teams. (Number of awards will vary based on participation rate)
  4. Individual High point awards will be awarded to the top rider/horse unit in each experience division.
  5. If a rider is the top individual rider and also a member of the top team, rider will only receive one high point award. Additional lines of embroidery will be included, if possible.
