My own personal favorite is a garden pump up sprayer, filled with ice and water (it will thaw while you are out on your loop but the water will be much cooler than ambient temperature) use the sprayer to cool the neck, chest, and mist the legs, scrape off with your had as the water heats up.  This made a hard to pulse down mare do a big turn around on her recoveries.  What used to take us 10-15 minutes…now takes only a few.   But no matter if  you hose, sponge, spray…lots of water,  important to do much scraping off until the water coming off is cool.
